Hajj 2026: Nigerian pilgrims move to Mina

By Habeebat Ajayi from Mecca

Nigerian pilgrims participating in the 2026 Hajj exercise have commenced their movement to Mina ahead of the beginning of the core Hajj rites in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The movement marks a major phase of the pilgrimage as thousands of pilgrims from different states across Nigeria prepare to depart their various accommodations in Mecca for the tent city of Mina.

Officials of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) and state pilgrims welfare boards were seen making final logistical arrangements, including transportation coordination, grouping and pilgrims’ sensitisation ahead of the movement.

Pilgrims have also been repeatedly advised to move in groups under designated leaders in line with Saudi operational guidelines aimed at ensuring orderliness and safety during the exercise.

Authorities emphasised the importance of carrying valid Nusuk Card at all times, describing it as a critical requirement for access to holy sites and movement within Hajj locations.

The movement to Mina comes amid intensified enlightenment campaigns by Saudi authorities and Hajj officials on safety measures, hydration and adherence to operational rules during the peak Hajj period.

Some pilgrims who spoke with journalists expressed excitement and gratitude as they prepared for what many described as the spiritual peak of the pilgrimage.

“We have been waiting for this moment. We pray Allah accepts our Hajj and grants Nigeria peace,” one of the pilgrims said.

Security officials and Hajj coordinators have also intensified monitoring around pilgrims’ camps and transportation points to ensure smooth movement and reduce the risk of missing persons or overcrowding.

Pilgrims are expected to spend the night in Mina before proceeding to Arafat for the peak of the Hajj rites, which include prayers and supplications regarded as one of the most significant aspects of the pilgrimage.

The development comes as Saudi authorities continue to enforce strict compliance with operational procedures, warning that participating country missions would be held responsible for lapses involving their pilgrims during the exercise.
