Heavy rain, strong winds expected in Selangor and six states until noon
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a warning for thunderstorms, heavy rain, and strong winds for Selangor and six other states until noon today.
In a statement released this morning, MetMalaysia said other states forecast to experience similar weather conditions are Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Perak, Sarawak, and Sabah.
MetMalaysia said the advisory also applies to Labuan.
In Selangor, the affected district is Sabak Bernam, while the districts in Kedah expected to experience similar weather are Langkawi, Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Pokok Sena, Padang Terap, Yan, Pendang, and Kuala Muda.
In Perak, the warning covers Kerian, Larut, Matang and Selama, Manjung, Perak Tengah, Bagan Datuk, and Hilir Perak.
For Sarawak, the weather alert involves Betong, Sarikei (Sarikei and Meradong), Mukah (Tanjung Manis and Daro), and Miri (Miri). In Sabah, the affected area is Kudat.
The statement said a warning is issued when there are signs of thunderstorms with rain intensity exceeding 20mm/hour that are expected to last for more than an hour.
“A thunderstorm warning is a short-term alert that remains valid for a duration of no more than six hours per issuance,” the department said.
