Iraq to be part of WorldLink Transit Cable Project
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Iraq will be part of the WorldLink Transit Cable project, which will establish a new digital corridor connecting the Gulf region to Europe via Iraqi territory, according to S&P Global Market Intelligence.
The project is part of a larger worldwide development of undersea cable and data transmission initiatives.
The project, which costs over $700 million, is privately funded by an Emirati-Iraqi partnership that includes Tech 964 Holding, DIL Technology, and Breeze Investments, according to the report.
The cable is set to begin in the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi, go to Turkey via Iraq, and link to Qatar, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait.
The initiative aims to serve multinational telecom corporations and applications that use artificial intelligence, providing an alternate path to congested corridors.
The project is expected to reduce the risk of interruptions and improve the resilience of data transmission between Asia and Europe.
The cable will have a design capacity of around 900 terabytes per second and will lower latency to less than 100 milliseconds.
The project will provide support to cloud computing services, data centers, and advanced digital applications.
The project will take five years to complete, with the expectation that the cable’s passage through Iraq will strengthen the country’s position as a regional data hub and attract additional investments in digital infrastructure and communications.
The WorldLink Transit Cable project is part of a larger worldwide effort to diversify international cable routes and minimize reliance on conventional corridors.
