Katsina Govt Denies Link To Ex-Aide Allegedly Involved In Kidnapping
The Katsina State Government has distanced itself from a former aide, Nura Aliyu Garwa, who was recently linked to an alleged kidnapping syndicate involved in the abduction of an eight-year-old boy in Katsina metropolis.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Bala Salisu Zango, clarified that Garwa had earlier been suspended from his position as Senior Special Assistant to Governor Dikko Umaru Radda on Community Development.
According to the statement, the suspension followed allegations bordering on the diversion of empowerment materials meant for communities in Batsari Local Government Area under the state’s Community Development Programme.
The government further disclosed that Garwa later declared interest in contesting for a seat in the Katsina State House of Assembly to represent Batsari Local Government Area.
Reacting to the development, Governor Radda described the alleged activities of the syndicate as unfortunate, expressing concern that a person with political aspirations and previous public service experience could be associated with such allegations.
The governor also commended the Katsina State to across the state.
The statement followed the parade of suspects by the police over their alleged involvement in the kidnapping of an eight-year-old boy at Sardauna Estate in Katsina metropolis, with the former aide reportedly linked to the syndicate.
The incident has continued to generate concern among residents over the growing threat of kidnapping and insecurity in the state.
