Kedah mechanic charged with three firearms offences in Sik Sessions Court, pleads not guilty

Malay Mail

SIK, May 25 — A mechanic was once again charged at the Sessions Court here today on three counts involving the possession of firearms, and pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Mohd Shahifuldin Mohd Shahiran, 46, entered the plea before Judge Rohaida Ishak.

On the first count, he was charged with possessing a US-made Remington Model 1100 rifle without a permit at a house in Kampung Luar Siong at about 6 pm on May 6 this year.

The charge was framed under Section 8 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971, which carries a maximum sentence of 14 years’ imprisonment and not fewer than six strokes of the cane upon conviction.

He was also charged under Section 8(a) of the same law with possessing 156 rounds of live ammunition without a valid permit at the same location, date and time.

The offence carries a maximum jail term of seven years, a fine not exceeding RM10,000, or both, if convicted.

On the third count, Mohd Shahifuldin was charged with possessing an imitation Glock 19 Gen 4 pistol and one bullet cartridge without lawful reason at the same place, time and date.

The charge, under Section 36 of the Arms Act 1960, provides a maximum sentence of one year’s imprisonment, a fine of up to RM5,000, or both, upon conviction.

The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurul Nadia Jamal, while the accused was unrepresented.

The court denied bail and fixed July 12 for mention.

On May 13, Mohd Shahifuldin was also charged before the Sessions Court and Magistrate’s Court in Baling on five charges related to the possession of firearms, to which he also pleaded not guilty. — Bernama
