Lagos PDP Crisis Deepens As Group Rejects Suspension Of Bode George
A factional crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State has intensified after the Lagos for Prosperity Group (LPG) rejected the suspension of former Deputy National Chairman of the party, Chief Olabode George, and 23 others.
The group also threatened a ₦10 billion lawsuit over what it described as illegal, defamatory, and procedurally flawed disciplinary actions taken by the Deji Doherty-led faction of the party in Lagos.
In a statement issued on Saturday by its spokesman, Chief Kazeem Oshodi, the group said the faction lacked both legal and organisational authority to suspend members within the Lagos PDP structure.
It argued that the inclusion of Prince Laja Adeoye, governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), in the suspension list was particularly wrongful and legally unsustainable.
Oshodi said Adeoye had long ceased to be a member of the PDP after formally resigning and aligning with another political party.
He maintained that no political party has the legal authority to discipline an individual who has formally withdrawn membership.
“The Deji Doherty-led faction lacks the moral, political and organisational authority to suspend members within the Lagos PDP structure,” Oshodi said.
He accused the faction of political inconsistency and alleged that some of its members had continued to act in ways that undermined the PDP while maintaining relationships with political opponents.
According to him, such conduct had weakened internal cohesion and raised questions about loyalty within the party’s Lagos structure.
Oshodi further claimed that Adeoye left the PDP due to prolonged internal disputes and leadership crises that made political engagement difficult.
He insisted that Adeoye is now fully committed to the APM and his governorship ambition under the new platform.
“Prince Laja Adeoye is no longer a member of the Peoples Democratic Party and should not be subjected to any disciplinary action by any faction,” he said.
He warned that failure to remove Adeoye’s name from the suspension list could expose those responsible to significant legal consequences, including defamation and reputational damage.
The Lagos PDP Disciplinary Committee had earlier announced the suspension of Bode George and 23 others over alleged anti-party activities, following petitions submitted against them.
The committee said its decision was based on internal party rules and disciplinary procedures.
Meanwhile, the Laja Adeoye Campaign Organisation also demanded the immediate removal of its principal’s name from the list, describing the action as misleading and procedurally impossible.
It issued a 76-hour ultimatum to the PDP faction to reverse the decision or face legal action.
