MAF pledges compliance with Tengku Hassanal’s decree on military activities in Pahang

Malay Mail

KUALA LUMPUR, May 25 — The Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) has expressed its gratitude and pledged compliance with the decree issued by the Tengku Mahkota of Pahang, Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, regarding the conduct of military activities in the state.

The MAF headquarters, in a statement yesterday, said that as the nation’s defence institution, it remains committed to ensuring all training, exercises, and operations are executed in a planned, professional, and responsible manner.

It said the MAF fully adheres to all regulatory guidelines, standing operating procedures (SOPs), and environmental impact assessments stipulated by the relevant authorities.

“The MAF also recognises the importance of strategic cooperation with the state government, enforcement agencies, relevant experts, and local communities in every training deployment.

“In view of this, the MAF will continue to strengthen coordination mechanisms and engagement with all stakeholders to ensure military training is carried out in a more organised, safe, orderly, and prudent manner, while taking local sensitivities into account,” the statement read.

The MAF added that continuous mitigation, monitoring, and evaluation measures are consistently implemented by the MAF to minimise any adverse impact on the natural ecosystem in the affected operational areas.

Media reports recently highlighted that Tengku Hassanal had expressed concern over military training activities conducted across Pahang’s island zones, which risk disrupting the maritime environment and fragile ecosystems.

His Royal Highness decreed that the MAF must obtain the prior consent of the Sultan of Pahang before executing any training exercises within the state. — Bernama
