Malaysia brush Singapore aside in Asean Under-19 opener
KUALA LUMPUR: The national youth team launched their Asean Under-19 Championship campaign with a dominant 3-0 victory over Singapore in their opening Group B match at the Teladan Stadium in Medan on Tuesday.
The Young Tigers took control in the first half, racing ahead with goals from Arif Aiman Zaaba in the 21st minute and Abid Safaraz Rozaidi in the 39th minute.
They maintained their momentum after the break, extending their lead through Tengku Hasyri Shah Meerza Tengku Hazman in the 60th minute.
The three-goal cushion extinguished any hopes of a Singaporean fightback, allowing Malaysia to comfortably secure the three points.
Coach Nazufi Zain’s side will next face Brunei on Friday.
Brunei suffered a 9-0 defeat against Thailand in their opening match earlier.
