Malaysia Masters showing below expectations, says Tengku Zafrul
KUALA LUMPUR: BA of Malaysia (BAM) president Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz described the performances of BAM players at the just-concluded Malaysia Masters as falling short of expectations.
He said excuses were no longer sufficient, and all parties involved needed to undergo a reset by focusing on fundamental aspects such as discipline, consistency, and the mentality required to compete and win at the highest level.
He added that BAM would implement improvements, including refining training approaches and strengthening focus ahead of upcoming tournaments.
“Everyone must take responsibility – players, coaches, and management. In elite sports, a big name alone is not enough. Performance must be consistent.
“Keep fighting. We are not done yet,” he said in a post on his Instagram account on Monday.
At the tournament, none of BAM’s representatives managed to reach the final after men’s doubles pairs Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik and Arif Junaidi-Yap Roy King were eliminated in the semi-finals on Saturday.
The outcome contrasted sharply with last year’s edition, when Aaron-Wooi Yik and Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun reached the final, with Wei Chong-Kai Wun emerging as champions.
Independent pair Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani were Malaysia’s best performers by finishing runners-up in the men’s doubles on Sunday. – BERNAMA
