Man arrested for stabbing woman inside car remanded four more days
ALOR STAR: Police have obtained a remand extension for a 32-year-old man arrested for allegedly stabbing a woman inside her car at a restaurant here last Sunday.
Kota Setar police chief Assistant Commissioner Syed Basri Syed Ali said the suspect, whose initial seven-day remand order expires today, will now be remanded until Wednesday to assist in investigations.
He said the extension was issued by magistrate Nur Syifa Mohd Hamzah at the Alor Star Court Complex here today.
“The victim is still at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital. She has regained consciousness and is currently in stable condition,” he said.
It was reported that the woman, a 35-year-old civil servant, was injured after she was stabbed on the left side of the neck by a man known to her outside a restaurant in Jalan Titi Gajah, Kepala Batas, during the 9.15pm incident.
The suspect was arrested about five hours later in Taman Uda, Lebuhraya Sultanah Bahiyah here.
The suspect, police said, had a prior criminal record under Section 326 of the Penal Code for causing grievous hurt to his former girlfriend several years ago.
Police previously said they did not rule out jealousy and unrequited love as the motive but stressed that investigations into the stabbing are ongoing.
The case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means.
