Maresca Signs 3 Years Contract To Replace Guardiola At Man City

In a seismic shift for English football, former Chelsea and Leicester City manager Enzo Maresca has officially signed a three-year contract to become the new manager of Manchester City.

The Italian tactician steps into one of the most high-pressure jobs in world sport, succeeding the legendary Pep Guardiola. Guardiola took charge of his final game for the Cityzens on Sunday, bringing the curtain down on a historic era with a disappointing 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa.

The appointment was swiftly validated by football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who broke the news on Tuesday afternoon via social media platform X. Romano stated: “Enzo Maresca has already signed a three-year deal as Manchester City’s new manager. Agreement until June 2029 and new chapter to start soon at #MCFC, with Maresca fully involved in the transfer strategy. Here we go, 100% confirmed.”

Maresca has been out of the dugout since his abrupt departure from Stamford Bridge in January this year. Despite receiving several lucrative offers from clubs across Europe over the spring, the 46-year-old reportedly knocked back all advances, intentionally biding his time in anticipation of the highly coveted vacancy at the Etihad Stadium.

Maresca is no stranger to the Manchester City infrastructure, having previously coached the club’s Elite Development Squad and served as an assistant under Guardiola during their historic treble-winning campaign.

The City board are understood to view Maresca as the ideal philosophical continuity candidate, capable of maintaining Guardiola’s intricate positional play while refreshing a squad that looked fatigued at the tail-end of the season. With the club hierarchy granting him immediate, absolute control over their summer transfer targets, Maresca faces a frantic few weeks as he seeks to reshape the squad ahead of pre-season.
