PETALING JAYA: A mechanic has been slapped with three more charges at the sessions court in Baling for the possession of a firearm, ammunition, and an imitation weapon.

Shahifuldin Shahiran, 46, claimed trial to the additional charges after they were read to him before judge Rohaida Ishak, Bernama reported.

Under the first charge, he is accused of possessing a Remington Model 1100 shotgun made in the US without a valid licence or permit.

He is alleged to have committed the offence at his house in Kampung Luar Siong, Baling, at about 6pm on May 6.

The charge was framed under Section 8 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971, which carries a jail term of up to 14 years and a minimum of six strokes of the cane upon conviction.

Under the second charge, Shahifuldin is accused under Section 8(a) of the Firearms Act 1960 of possessing 156 rounds of live ammunition of various types without a valid licence or permit at the same place, date, and time.

The offence carries a maximum jail term of seven years, a fine of up to RM10,000, or both, upon conviction.

He is also charged with possessing an imitation Glock 19 Gen 4 pistol made in Austria, along with a magazine, at the same location and time.

The third charge was framed under Section 36 of the Arms Act 1960, which provides for a jail sentence of up to one year, a fine of up to RM5,000, or both, upon conviction.

The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Nurul Nadia Jamal, while Shahifuldin was unrepresented.

The court denied bail and fixed July 12 for mention, the appointment of counsel, and the submission of documents.

On May 13, Shahifuldin claimed trial in the sessions and magistrates’ courts in Baling, Kedah, to five counts of possessing firearms, ammunition and an imitation weapon.
