N. Sembilan Pakatan leaders, assemblymen hold morning meeting at MB’s official residence amid dissolution speculation

KUALA LUMPUR, June 2 — Pakatan Harapan (PH) leaders and state assembly members in Negri Sembilan held a meeting at the official residence of Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun this morning, amid speculation that it could be linked to the possible dissolution of the state legislative assembly.

According to a Berita Harian report, PH assemblymen and several party leaders began arriving at the Menteri Besar’s residence as early as 9.30am for what is believed to be a special meeting on the dissolution of the state assembly ahead of a possible state election.

Menteri Besar press secretary Ahmad Shahir Mohd Shah, however, said no press conference was scheduled following the meeting.

“As of this morning, there has been no call for a press conference. Tomorrow, the Menteri Besar will have an audience with His Highness Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negri Sembilan. This is a normal procedure before the weekly exco meeting,” he said.

The development comes amid growing political reactions and calls for Negri Sembilan to follow Johor’s move in dissolving its state assembly yesterday.

It follows remarks by DAP secretary-general and Negri Sembilan DAP chairman Anthony Loke Siew Fook at a Pakatan Harapan convention in Johor on May 17, where he said Negri Sembilan would follow Johor’s lead if the state assembly was dissolved.

Aminuddin had previously said he did not rule out the possibility of a state election being held this year, but stressed that the decision would depend on current circumstances.

Meanwhile, Negri Sembilan Umno Youth has expressed support for the dissolution of the state assembly, saying it would allow voters to renew their mandate.

Its chief Mohamad Fadil Md Zin said such a move was necessary to ensure political stability and continued prosperity in the state.

Negri Sembilan Umno Wanita chief Puan Sri Bibi Sharliza Mohd Khalid also said the wing was prepared should an election be called soon, adding that it followed the party president’s directive.

She said while some residents felt the state assembly should be dissolved following Loke’s remarks, questions remained over whether it could proceed amid ongoing constitutional and adat-related issues.
