Najwan denies that 21 Shah Alam PKR committee members quit

PETALING JAYA: Shah Alam PKR chief Najwan Halimi has denied reports that 21 committee members of the branch, including several women’s wing leaders, have resigned.

In a statement, Najwan said an investigation by the division found that only three had actually quit the party.

“We believe that a PKR MP who was disappointed after losing in the party polls last year is behind the resignation of these members,” he added.

However, he did not identify the MP in question, whom he said had contested posts at the central and divisional levels.

“Shah Alam PKR remains intact and will not bow to treacherous schemes by traitors in disguise,” he said.

At the party polls in April 2025, Rodziah Ismail was defeated by Najwan, the Kota Anggerik assemblyman, who garnered 1,213 votes against her 899.

Rodziah, the Ampang MP, vied for the post of Wanita PKR chief but lost to Fadhlina Sidek.

Earlier today, Sinar Harian reported that the group had quit the party, citing a loss of confidence in Najwan and PKR’s top leadership.

The group reportedly claimed that they were not consulted in several key decisions, including political appointments.

Wanita PKR secretary Sangetha Jayakumar said the wing would take over, oversee, and manage all administrative matters of the Shah Alam division with immediate effect.

Sangetha said this followed the division’s failure to hold its general assembly within the stipulated period.

“Such an intervention is necessary to rectify the administrative shortcomings and to strengthen the party’s structure,” she said in a statement, calling for the grassroots to remain calm and close ranks.
