Ombudsman files plunder, graft cases vs Estrada; arrest looms

MANILA, Philippines — The Office of the Ombudsman on Thursday afternoon filed plunder and graft cases against Sen. Jinggoy Estrada before the Sandiganbayan. After this move, an arrest warrant is expected to be issued against Estrada anytime soon. Plunder is a non-bailable case and carries a penalty of life imprisonment. Once jailed, Estrada could only be temporarily released if the evidence of his guilt is not strong. The anti-graft body formally charged Estrada weeks after receiving the recommendation from the Department of Justice (DOJ).
