Pakatan Penang establishes manifesto, information and mobilisation committees for GE16

Malay Mail

GEORGE TOWN, May 24 — Pakatan Harapan (PH) Penang has set up three new committees in preparation for the 16th General Election (GE16) as an early move to strengthen the coalition’s readiness at the state level.

Penang PH chairman Chow Kon Yeow said the three committees are the Election Manifesto Committee led by Zairil Khir Johari from DAP, the Information Committee headed by Lee Boon Heng (PKR) and the Mobilisation Committee chaired by Zahar Zainul (Amanah).

“The establishment of these committees will focus on issues such as the low voter turnout rate, ways to increase voter turnout and raising awareness on the importance of the upcoming general election,” he told a press conference after the 2026 Penang PH Annual General Meeting here today.

He said the committees were established at the meeting, which also decided to maintain him as the chairman of the state PH Leadership Council for the 2024/2026 term, while the three deputy chairmen are Datuk Dr Mohamad Abdul Hamid from PKR, Steven Sim Chee Keong (DAP) and Muhammad Faiz Fadzil (Amanah).

He said the line-up also includes three vice-chairmen, namely Ramkarpal Singh (DAP), Dr Zaidi Zakaria (Amanah) and Goh Choon Aik (PKR), while Lim Hui Ying (DAP) was appointed secretary and Zulkiefly Saad (PKR) assistant secretary.

Chow, who is also Penang Chief Minister, said close cooperation among the state PH component parties would continue to be strengthened to ensure continuity in effective governance, sustainable development across Penang and to empower the grassroots machinery.

On the possibility of any electoral arrangement ahead of GE16, Chow said this would not stop Penang PH from continuing preparations in all constituencies previously contested by the coalition.

“We take note of the political dynamics, particularly following the PH Convention in Johor Bahru. Whatever electoral arrangement may emerge ahead of the election, it will not prevent us from making preparations in all areas we previously contested,” he said. — Bernama
