Pas rebuts Bersatu political bureau’s claim of failure to respond during crisis

KUALA LUMPUR: Pas has rejected statements issued by the Bersatu political bureau concerning its secretary-general, describing them as inaccurate, misleading and damaging to the Islamic party’s credibility.

Pas Information Chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari said allegations that Pas had failed to respond throughout the crisis were entirely baseless.

He said Pas retains detailed records of communications between its secretary-general and his counterpart in Bersatu, adding that the party is prepared to disclose them at an appropriate platform when necessary.

Ahmad Fadhli also said Bersatu had omitted key details, including a message sent by its secretary-general to the Pas secretary-general on May 5 — the same day press statements were issued by two Bersatu Negri Sembilan assemblymen.

He said the message merely informed Pas of the outcome of an emergency Bersatu political bureau meeting, which had altered its earlier position and was inconsistent with the consensus previously reached under Perikatan Nasional (PN) regarding the Negri Sembilan crisis.

He further alleged that other facts had been deliberately omitted, including Bersatu’s move to submit a list of candidates for the Perlis Menteri Besar post without first referring the matter to the PN Supreme Council.

Responding to claims that the Pas president had deliberately failed to attend an audience with the Raja of Perlis on Oct 25 last year, Ahmad Fadhli said the allegation was untrue.

He clarified that the Pas president was never asked to attend an audience on that date, nor at any time before or after the Perlis Menteri Besar appointment dispute.

He added that no party should attempt to shift responsibility for its internal organisational failures onto others in an effort to conceal weaknesses.
