PDP Urges Dinshiya To Accept Defeat, Backs Ikenya In Taraba Guber Race

The Kabiru Tanimu Turaki camp of the Peoples Democratic Party in Taraba State has called on governorship aspirant, Hon. David Usman Dinshiya, to accept the outcome of the party’s gubernatorial primary election in the interest of unity and stability within the party.

Dinshiya, a nephew of former military commander General TY Danjuma, had opposed the consensus arrangement and was defeated in the primary election that produced former federal lawmaker and Minister of Labour and Productivity, Senator Joel Danlami Ikenya, as the party’s governorship candidate.

The party urged Dinshiya to support its candidate, Senator Ikenya, ahead of future political engagements, stressing the need for all stakeholders to close ranks after the internal contest.

The call was made while reacting to allegations by Dinshiya that the primary election which produced Ikenya as the PDP governorship flag bearer was manipulated.

In a statement signed by the State Publicity Secretary, Hon. Irash John Iratishe, the PDP said the exercise was conducted in line with the Electoral Act, the party’s constitution, and guidelines approved by its National Working Committee (NWC).

The party maintained that delegates freely exercised their voting rights during the process and dismissed claims that the election did not hold or that the results were fabricated.

According to the statement, “The outcome of the primary reflected the collective decision of accredited delegates who participated in the process,” insisting that Ikenya’s victory was a product of democratic choice rather than manipulation.

The PDP also defended its state chairman, Comrade Obidah Bitrus, against allegations of bias, describing his role during the exercise as impartial and consistent with his official responsibilities.

The party, however, accused Dinshiya of attempting to discredit a process he willingly participated in, noting that grievances arising from internal contests should be addressed through constitutional channels rather than public attacks capable of causing division within the party.
