PH strong enough to face Negri Sembilan polls alone, says Loke
SEREMBAN: Pakatan Harapan (PH) has the political strength to face the next Negri Sembilan state election without relying on other parties, says its deputy chairman Anthony Loke.
He said PH had successfully governed the state on its own from 2018 to 2023 despite various challenges, including the 2020 Sheraton Move and the Covid-19 pandemic.
“When the Sheraton Move happened at the federal level in 2020, Negri Sembilan remained intact. Even during the Covid-19 period, we continued governing on our own with only 20 seats and the government did not collapse.
“That proves PH has its own strength and still enjoys the people’s confidence,” he told reporters after a hi-tea event with outstanding 2025 SPM students for the Seremban parliamentary constituency today.
In the 14th General Election, PH formed the Negri Sembilan government after winning 20 of the 36 state seats.
The DAP secretary-general said PH’s internal strength, administrative stability and service track record must remain the coalition’s foundation in facing future political challenges.
Loke also reiterated that PH in Negri Sembilan must be prepared for the possibility of simultaneous state elections with Johor or Melaka if either state dissolves its assembly soon.
However, he said the matter would depend on Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun after consultations with PH leadership and obtaining the consent of the Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negri Sembilan.
PH chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had said at the PH Convention 2026 in Johor last week that the coalition was prepared to contest all seats in Johor and Negri Sembilan if Umno and Barisan Nasional decide to do the same in the coming state polls.
