Producer says decision to halt ‘Konspirasi’ screenings made internally, no outside influence

Malay Mail

KUALA LUMPUR, May 31 — Production company Elepfilm Entertainment Sdn Bhd has emphasised that the decision to halt screenings of the film “Konspirasi” in cinemas nationwide was made internally by its management without influence from external parties.

In a statement today, the company said the decision was made after taking into account various considerations based on the current situation and was not intended as publicity or a marketing strategy.

“The decision was made internally by the management and not for publicity or marketing purposes. No party influenced the decision,” it said.

The statement was made following various speculations about the termination of the film’s screenings since May 28.

Elepfilm Entertainment also urged all parties to stop any speculation, assumptions or dissemination of unverified information related to the matter.

The company said it appreciates all feedback, support, and views given by various parties regarding the film’s screening.

“We also hope the audience will continue to support the creative talents involved in Konspirasi as well as the local film industry as a whole,” it said.

On May 29, the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas) confirmed that screenings of Konspirasi in cinemas nationwide had been discontinued at the producer’s request.

Finas said it was informed by the Malaysian Association of Film Exhibitors (MAFE) and Media Prima Berhad, as the film distributor dealing with the cinemas.

The film, directed by Ghaz Abu Bakar, features a cast including Sarimah Ibrahim, Datuk Adi Putra, Hisyam Hamid, Alicia Amin, Shiqin Kamal, Roy Azman and Esma Daniel. — Bernama
