Rapid KL confirms train derailment near Chan Sow Lin disrupts Ampang-Sri Petaling Line

KUALA LUMPUR, May 28 — Rapid KL today confirmed that one of its trains derailed while passing a railway switch near Chan Sow Lin station, disrupting services along the Ampang-Sri Petaling Line.

In a statement, the rail operator said no injuries were reported in the incident.

“There were 25 passengers on board the train when the incident occurred.

“They have since been evacuated,” it said.

The company said its technical team was investigating the incident while repair works were ongoing.

Alternative train services and free shuttle buses have since been activated to ease congestion and help commuters continue their journeys.

Under the temporary service arrangement, trains from Sentul Timur are turning back at Pudu station at four-minute intervals.

Shuttle train services are also operating between Ampang and Maluri via Platform 2 every six minutes, while separate shuttle trains between Maluri and Chan Sow Lin via Platforms 1B and 2B are running at eight-minute intervals.

Rapid KL said trains from Putra Heights are turning back at Bandar Tasik Selatan every six minutes, with additional shuttle train services operating between Bandar Tasik Selatan and Cheras, as well as between Cheras and Pudu, at eight-minute intervals.

Free shuttle buses have also been deployed between Hang Tuah station and Cheras as well as Pandan Jaya, with buses arriving every 15 to 20 minutes depending on traffic conditions.

“Passengers are also advised to use other alternative rail routes to continue their journey to their destinations,” Rapid KL said.

Passengers requiring assistance were advised to approach station officers or auxiliary police personnel.

Today’s incident is the latest in a string of disruptions affecting Rapid KL’s rail network.

On May 18, the Kelana Jaya LRT Line experienced delays after a train suffered a technical problem and was unable to move.
