Rental house used as ketum processing ‘lab’ busted in Pasir Mas raid

KUALA LUMPUR, June 2 — A rental house allegedly used as a “lab” for processing and selling ketum water since last year in Gual Periok near Pasir Mas, Kelantan, was raided by the General Operations Force (PGA) on Monday night.

According to Utusan Malaysia, the 11.30pm raid led to the seizure of 100 litres of ketum water and processing equipment, with the total value estimated at RM5,430.

Eastern Brigade PGA commander Senior Assistant Commissioner Ahmad Radzi Hussain said the operation led to the arrest of a 40-year-old man and the discovery of 100 packets of ketum drink stored in a freezer at the premises.

He said initial investigations found the suspect had been involved in processing ketum drinks since early 2025.

The leaves, believed to have been purchased from an individual known as “Man”, were boiled using two pots before being turned into about 200 packets of ketum drink.

The drinks were then sold for RM10 per packet, he said.

Ahmad Radzi said the suspect was believed to have rented the house specifically for the illegal processing activities, while he himself resided at his in-laws’ home in Kampung Repek.

The case is being investigated under Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act 1952 and Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

A urine test also found the suspect positive for methamphetamine, he added.
