Report: Trump blasted Netanyahu in heated call over Lebanon invasion

US President Donald Trump sharply criticised Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during a phone call on Monday over Israel’s escalation in Lebanon, according to Axios, which cited two US officials and another source briefed on the conversation.

According to Axios, Trump accused Netanyahu of ingratitude and moved to stop an Israeli plan to strike Beirut.

One US official summarised Trump’s remarks as: “You’re f**king crazy. You’d be in prison if it weren’t for me. I’m saving your ass. Everybody hates you now. Everybody hates Israel because of this.”

A second source told Axios that Trump was “pissed” and at one point shouted: “What the f are you doing?”

The report said the call came after Iran threatened to abandon negotiations with Washington because of Israel’s actions in Lebanon.
