Search underway for 18-year-old feared missing after Bukit Asa descent

KUALA LUMPUR: An 18-year-old woman who was on a hiking trip with her family at Bukit Asa in Hulu Bernam yesterday is feared missing.

Hulu Selangor district police chief Assistant Commissioner Ibrahim Husin said police received information on the incident involving Nur Izzati Humaira Azizul from the Tanjong Malim Fire and Rescue Station at 2.30pm.

He said initial investigations found that the victim, who began the hike at 8.40am with six family members, asked her mother for the car keys at 10.50am, saying she was unable to cope with the heat and was feeling tired.

“However, when the victim’s mother reached the vehicle at 11.35am, she found that the victim was not there and is believed to have gone missing while making her way down the hill alone,” he said in a statement today.

The victim was last seen wearing a long brown hijab, a dark green long-sleeved top, black trousers and blue shoes.

He said a search and rescue (SAR) operation was launched yesterday, running from 4.38pm to 11.53pm amid light rain, before resuming at 9.30am today.

He said the operation now involved 51 personnel from multiple agencies, including the Fire and Rescue Department, police, the Malaysian Civil Defence Force, the Social Welfare Department, mountain guides and volunteers.

Members of the public with information are urged to contact the Hulu Selangor district police headquarters or the investigating officer.
