Sepat FSO tragedy: Police conduct detailed investigation into deaths of three workers

Malay Mail

KUALA TERENGGANU, May 25 — Police are conducting a detailed investigation into the accident that claimed the lives of three workers at the Sepat floating storage and offloading (FSO) facility, located about 150 metres off the waters of Kuala Terengganu, yesterday afternoon.

Kuala Terengganu police chief ACP Azli Mohd Noor said a team of officers from the Criminal Investigation Department had been dispatched to the location to determine the cause of the incident.

He also advised the public not to speculate or spread unverified information regarding the incident, especially on social media.

“At this stage, the case is being investigated as a sudden death report. However, further investigations are being carried out to determine the actual cause of the incident.

“If any criminal elements are found, the case will be reclassified and taken over by the Criminal Investigation Department for further action,” he said when met at the Forensic Medicine Department of Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital (HSNZ) here today.

Yesterday, Bernama reported that three oil rig workers were killed, while another suffered serious injuries after the lifeboat they were on plunged into the sea while carrying out maintenance work. — Bernama
