Sinomine offers farm for rent
The Sinomine Tsumeb Community Trust is offering a farm for rent at Stampriet in the Hardap region.
The commercial agricultural plot is 12 hectares, and interested parties are invited to rent, operate and manage the agricultural operations.
The community trust advertised the plot yesterday.
“Key features of the property [include] six climate-controlled greenhouses equipped with automated irrigation systems fitted for year-round production of peppers, tomatoes, and cucumbers [as well as] two chicken coops/houses with a capacity to accommodate up to 8 000 chickens per production cycle,” the advertisement says.
The plot also has staff quarters, office buildings, a borehole and solar power.
Interested parties are expected to have technical expertise and financial capacity, the community trust says. The successful applicant will be required to pay a monthly rental fee.
“A site meeting will be held on 12 June, compulsory for all interested applicants,” the advertisement reads.
The plot is located at the Roots Agricultural Village at Stampriet.
The community trust is the corporate social responsibility arm of Sinomine in Namibia, which is a Chinese mining company operating the Tsumeb smelter.
The company bought the smelter from Dundee Precious Metals in 2024, but was forced to scale back operations due to poor market conditions including the lack of copper concentrate.
Sinomine announced its Multi Metals Recycling project last year, which intends to recover critical minerals from legacy slag.
Last year, Sinomine said it aimed to complete construction of the project in 2027.
