Socso: 46,542 commuting accidents last year, most fatalities among breadwinners

Malay Mail

SEPANG, May 23 — A total of 46,542 or 50.9 per cent of the 91,456 accident cases recorded in 2025 involved commuting accidents to and from work, according to the Social Security Organisation (Perkeso).

Perkeso chief executive officer Datuk Seri Dr Mohammed Azman Aziz Mohammed said the statistics reflected an alarming trend, particularly among motorcyclists, adding that most fatalities involved family breadwinners.

“This worrying situation calls for action that goes beyond a reactive approach because the disbursement of Perkeso benefits alone is not the sole solution to this issue,” he said during the launch of the Malaysian Riders Campaign (MyRider) here today.

He said Perkeso, in collaboration with the Royal Malaysia Police’s Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT), launched the MyRider campaign to strengthen efforts to prevent road accidents, especially those involving motorcyclists.

The campaign also involves various agencies and industry partners, including the Ministry of Transport (MOT) and the Road Transport Department (JPJ), reflecting a shared commitment to enhancing motorcycle rider safety in Malaysia.

“Through the MyRider campaign, I want to convey a simple yet meaningful message that we must together cultivate more responsible, prudent and safety-conscious Malaysian riders, in line with the slogan ‘Malaysian Riders: Safe. Prudent. Dignified’,” he said.

Meanwhile, Bukit Aman JSPT deputy director (Enforcement/Traffic Control/Summons Management) DCP Mohd Rozi Jidin said the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) fully supports the MyRider campaign.

“May the close cooperation between Perkeso, PDRM, government agencies and strategic industry partners serve as a catalyst for more effective efforts in enhancing motorcycle rider safety in Malaysia,” he said. — Bernama
