South Africa issues Range Rover safety recall due to manufacturing defect

South Africa’s National Consumer Commission has announced a safety recall affecting select 2022 to 2026 Range Rover and Range Rover Sport models.

This comes after a manufacturing defect was identified in the panoramic roof side finishers, which may not have been properly secured during factory rework.

The commission says the faulty adhesion could cause the trim to loosen or detach over time, posing a potential risk to road users.

“The recall affects five vehicles manufactured between December 2021 and December 2025. The supplier informed the commission that the adhesion process used to reattach the panoramic roof side finishers during vehicle quality rework operations may not have been sufficient,” the commission says.

It warns that the part could come loose gradually or detach completely, potentially distracting drivers or endangering pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists, and increasing the risk of a crash or injury.

“An inadequately adhered panoramic roof side finisher could, over time, come partially or completely loose.

“This could result in distraction to the driver or other road users or, in the event of complete detachment, harm to other road users, particularly pedestrians or two-wheeled vehicles, increasing the risk of injury or a crash”.

The commission adds that affected owners are urged to contact authorised Jaguar Land Rover dealerships to arrange inspections and repairs.

“Consumers who own the affected Range Rover and Range Rover Sport vehicles are urged to visit their nearest Jaguar Land Rover dealership to

arrange for an inspection and repair. The panoramic roof side finisher will be removed and securely attached. There will be no charge to owners for this permanent repair.”

Earlier this week, IOL also reported that the commission announced the recall of 146 Hino 300 series vehicles in South Africa.

According to the consumer watchdog, the affected vehicles may contain a faulty component in the combination meter circuit board, which could cause the speedometer and odometer to malfunction.

The recall applies to Hino 300 series models distributed nationally between 14 March and 19 October 2025. – IOL
