Sze Fei-Izzuddin to train with national pairs until Asian Games
KUALA LUMPUR: Independent men’s doubles pair Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin Rumsani will continue training alongside national shuttlers at the Academy Badminton Malaysia until the Asian Games in September.
The world No. 9 came close to securing their second title of the season at last week’s Malaysia Masters, but were stopped by Denmark’s Daniel Lundgaard-Mads Vestergaard, losing 21-16, 21-17 in Sunday’s final.
Sze Fei-Izzuddin’s coach, Teo Kok Siang, said his pair would benefit from the training and sparring sessions with the BA of Malaysia (BAM) pairs, which include world No. 2 Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik, leading up to the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.
“I think it helps us a lot to spar with high-quality players. I would especially like to thank BAM for allowing us in for sparring sessions,” said Kok Siang.
“My plan is to continue this with them.”
Sze Fei-Izzuddin will now prepare for the Singapore Open, which starts on Tuesday.
“I hope they will bounce back in Singapore after losing in the final on Sunday. They need to be consistent as the Super 750 tournament has attracted top pairs,” he added.
