Teen hiker Nur Izzati’s case classified as sudden death, say police
KUALA KUBU BARU: Police have classified the death of 19-year-old Nur Izzati Humaira Azizul, whose body was found at Bukit Changkat Asa today, as sudden death (SDR).
Hulu Selangor police chief Assistant Commissioner Ibrahim Husin said the teenager’s remains were discovered at 11.58am, about 1km from the Disaster Operations Control Centre.
“At 1.08pm, the body was successfully recovered from the site. The case is classified as SDR, and the remains have been sent to the Sungai Buloh Hospital Forensic Unit for a post-mortem,” he said in a statement today.
The tragedy began last Saturday when police were alerted at 2.30pm that a teenage woman had gone missing while descending Bukit Changkat Asa with her family.
The group of seven had started their hike at 8.40am.
“At 10.50am, during the descent, the family stopped to rest.
“The victim then asked for the car keys and her backpack from her mother, saying she wanted to head down first as she was exhausted and affected by the heat.
“At about 11.35am, when the mother reached the car, she found Nur Izzati was not there. It was then suspected she had gone missing while trekking down alone,” he said.
The four-day search and rescue operation involved 114 personnel from various agencies, including the Fire and Rescue Department, police, Civil Defence Force, mountain guides, local authorities and volunteers.
Earlier, Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said the victim was found by the Special Tactical Operation and Rescue Team of Malaysia (STORM) in a relatively flat area.
He said the body was found lying on its back, with no visible injuries or signs of animal attack.
“As she was wearing long sleeves at the time, no obvious external injuries could be seen,” he said.
He added that the body was found about 6m from a trail leading to an orchard area, suggesting she might have strayed from the main route and become lost.
The remains were handed over to police and sent to Kuala Kubu Baru Hospital for a post-mortem.
