Tengku Hassanal directs Armed Forces to seek Pahang Sultan’s consent for any military drills on state islands

Malay Mail

KUALA LUMPUR, May 24 — The Pahang crown prince has decreed that the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) and all relevant agencies must first inform and obtain the Sultan of Pahang’s consent before conducting any military training or exercises in the state.

In a statement issued by Istana Abdulaziz in Kuantan and released to the media, Tengku Mahkota Pahang Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah said he was paying close attention to the proposed exercises and their potential impact.

“His Royal Highness expressed concern that the military activities could disrupt the natural ecosystem, flora and fauna of Pahang,” the statement said.

The crown prince noted that while he does not oppose military training to enhance the skills and experience of ATM personnel, such activities must be carried out responsibly, safely and in harmony with the environment and all stakeholders.

He emphasised that ATM and all departments or agencies involved must comply fully with the directive before initiating any exercises in Pahang.

The statement added that the crown prince would not hesitate to request state government action should any party violate established procedures.

Pahang’s island territories include Pulau Tioman, Pulau Tulai, Pulau Seri Buat and several smaller surrounding islands that form part of the state’s ecologically sensitive marine and coastal zones.
