“Trump’s Animal Twin”: Rare blond buffalo becomes an Eid-Adha star

ALBAWABA – An extraordinarily uncommon albino buffalo has become one of Bangladesh’s most popular Eid al-Adha attractions after visitors compared its appearance to US President Donald Trump.

The animal, reared at a farm in Narayanganj, near Dhaka, has gained the nickname “Donald Trump” for a striking blond tuft of hair cascading across its forehead that many locals feel mimics the American leader’s hallmark hairstyle.

In the weeks leading up to Eid al-Adha hundreds of curious tourists have gone to the farm to take photos and videos of the buffalo, turning the farm into a social media sensation across the country. People travel from all over to witness the animal in the flesh.

The buffalo weighs over 700 kilograms and impresses out not only by its size, but also by its odd appearance. Albino buffaloes are very unusual in Bangladesh since the cattle are usually dark brown. Its cream-colored body, pink nose and long blond hair have made it one among the most identifiable sacrificial animals on display this year.

Farm owner Zain Uddin Merida said: “The buffalo has a calm nature despite the attention it receives. The animal needs extensive daily care, including frequent washes and carefully supervised feeding schedules to keep it in good shape, he said.

The buffalo has already been sold to a buyer for sacrifice during the Eid al-Adha but that hasn’t stopped visitors from flocking in to have a sight before the celebration.

The tendency is spreading in Bangladesh, where unusually huge or distinctive cattle often become seasonal attractions. Animals with unusual looks are often given celebrity-inspired names and paraded to entice buyers, tourists and online attention ahead of one of the country’s largest cattle selling periods.
