Two charged over Oistins Bay Garden slaying remanded

Two Christ Church men charged in connection with a shooting at Oistins Bay Garden, which left one man dead and several others wounded, have been remanded to custody after appearing before a magistrate.

Jaheim Canute Collins, 18, of Inch Marlow, Silver Sands, and Shane Anthony Burke, formerly Shane Anthony Greene, 29, of Ashby Land, Lodge Road, were not required to plead to murdering Raul Clarke on April 6 when they appeared at the Oistins Magistrates’ Court before acting Magistrate Gayle Scott.

They are also accused of unlawfully wounding Roger Belcon and Krystal Blagrove with intent to maim, disfigure or disable them; recklessly engaging in conduct which placed Reco Scantlebury, Akeem Carter and Jakeri Kinch in danger of death or serious bodily harm; using a firearm without a valid licence; and, together with others, using violence that threatened the safety of those present at the scene.

Before and after the charges were read, the two men repeatedly told the court from the dock that they were not involved in the incidents.

“My name get call on a murder charge and I ain’t murder nobody,” said Burke, before Collins stated: “Police see me and put a murder charge on me. I ain’t know nothing about this.”

“These are all indictable matters and the magistrates’ courts cannot hear them. This court cannot grant you bail on a murder charge and it cannot grant you bail on a firearm offence. So you will be remanded into custody. Your attorney can apply for bail at the High Court,” said the magistrate before remanding them until June 25.
