Two Malaysians affected in Angeles City building collapse – Wisma Putra

PUTRAJAYA: The Foreign Ministry has confirmed that two Malaysians were affected by the building collapse in Angeles City, north of Manila, the Philippines, on Sunday.

In a statement, the ministry, also known as Wisma Putra, said one victim had been confirmed safe, while the Malaysian Embassy in Manila is working to verify the status of the second individual.

“The Embassy is in close communication with local authorities to monitor the well-being of the citizen confirmed safe, and to verify the status and whereabouts of the remaining national,” it said.

It added that efforts were underway to locate and contact the next of kin of both individuals.

The ministry said rescue operations were ongoing at the site, where people are feared trapped following the collapse of a nine-storey building under construction.

“The ministry extends its deepest sympathies to all those affected by this incident,” it added.

Media reports said 26 people were rescued after the structure collapsed early Sunday in Angeles City, with 24 pulled from the debris and two others rescued from a nearby hotel affected by the incident.
