UP law prof: Impeachment is truth-telling, not a judicial process

MANILA, Philippines — Impeachment trial should remain focused on uncovering the truth rather than becoming a highly technical legal battle, according to a constitutional law expert. University of the Philippines (UP) College of Law Associate Dean and Assistant Professor Paolo Tamase on Tuesday warned against efforts to “over-judicialize” the proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte. “The focus of impeachment has traditionally been the truth-telling aspect of it,” he told the Inquirer via a phone interview on Tuesday.
