WHAT WENT BEFORE: De Lima case echoes in Senate remote attendance debate

Years before Sen. Rodante Marcoleta sought to allow senators to join proceedings remotely, then-senator Leila de Lima had already pushed to continue her legislative work while in detention. But the circumstances were far from identical. Marcoleta on Tuesday, May 26, attempted to amend Senate rules to allow senators, under what he described as “justifiable reasons,” to attend and participate in sessions through videoconferencing.
