Zamfara launches anti-violent crimes police unit
Governor Dauda Lawal has launched a Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) in Fegin Kanawa village as part of efforts to tackle insecurity and support farming activities in the state.
Speaking during the inauguration, the governor commended the Inspector-General of Police for establishing the unit, describing it as timely and strategic in the fight against violent crimes.
He also praised the Zamfara State Commissioner of Police, Ahmad Muhammad Bello, for what he called proactive leadership and operational strategies aimed at restoring confidence in affected communities.
The Commissioner of Police, in his remarks, thanked the state government for supporting security operations and community safety initiatives.
He assured residents that the command remained committed to eliminating banditry and other violent crimes across the state.
Bello said personnel attached to the new unit had undergone specialised training to enhance professionalism, accountability and respect for human rights in line with the Nigeria Police Act 2020.
The police command urged residents to cooperate with security agencies and report suspicious activities through its emergency contact lines.
