منتخب العراق يمدد عقد أرنولد حتى كأس آسيا 2027

أعلن الاتحاد العراقي لكرة القدم تمديد عقد الأسترالي غراهام أرنولد، مدرب المنتخب الأول حتى نهائيات كأس آسيا 2027، وذلك بعد أشهر من قيادته العراق للتأهل إلى كأس العالم للمرة الأولى منذ 40 عاماً.

وقال أرنولد البالغ من العمر 63 عاماً والمدرب السابق للمنتخب الأسترالي في مؤتمر صحافي بالعاصمة بغداد: جددت عقدي لمدة ستة أشهر، وهذا القرار يصب في مصلحتي ومصلحة المنتخب العراقي.

وتولى أرنولد تدريب العراق في مايو 2025، وقاده إلى كأس العالم 2026 عبر الملحق العالمي، ليصبح العراق آخر المنتخبات الـ 48 المتأهلة إلى البطولة.

وخسر المنتخب العراقي مبارياته الثلاث في دور المجموعات أمام النرويج وفرنسا والسنغال، لكنه اكتسب خبرة مهمة من مواجهة لاعبين بارزين مثل الفرنسي كيليان مبابي والنرويجي إرلينغ هالاند.

ويستعد العراق للمشاركة في كأس آسيا 2027، حيث أوقعته القرعة إلى جانب أستراليا وسنغافورة وطاجيكستان، فيما يبدأ استعداداته للبطولة من خلال كأس الخليج المقررة في سبتمبر المقبل.

وأكد أرنولد أنه عاد مبكراً لمتابعة اللاعبين واكتشاف عناصر جديدة، مشيراً إلى أن المرحلة المقبلة ستشهد ظهور وجوه جديدة مع بناء المنتخب للمستقبل.

يذكر أن العراق قد سبق له الفوز ببطولة كأس آسيا عام 2007.
