200,000 Bersatu members now with Hamzah, claims ex-Melaka CM

PETALING JAYA: Former Melaka chief minister Rahim Thamby Chik claims that more than 200,000 Bersatu members who have either left or remain with the party are backing former opposition leader Hamzah Zainudin’s Reset movement.
The former Melaka Bersatu chief denied that these members were manipulated by Hamzah, claiming they had lost confidence in the party’s leadership and were disappointed with its culture.
“Hamzah isn’t inciting anyone to divide Bersatu (by getting them to join his movement). It’s Bersatu’s own practices that have led to mass defections from the party,” he said in a Facebook post.
Hamzah was formerly Bersatu deputy president but was sacked by the party on Feb 13 at the height of a fierce leadership tussle with Muhyiddin Yassin. He launched his Reset movement the following day.
The Larut MP is reportedly set to take over a new party, with other sacked Bersatu leaders to follow him, including Saifuddin Abdullah (Indera Mahkota), Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal (Machang), and Wan Saiful Wan Jan (Tasek Gelugor).
His close allies also include Bersatu vice-president Ronald Kiandee and Wanita chief Mas Ermieyati Samsuddin, who have been suspended by the party.
