3-year-old boy found dead inside well in FCT community

A three-year-old boy, Abdullahi Musa, son of the vigilante commander of Zuba in Gwagwalada Area Council of the FCT, Musa Baba, has been found dead inside a well in Yimi village, Zuba chiefdom.

A resident, Ibrahim Idris, said the incident occurred on Tuesday after the child was declared missing by his parents on Monday.

According to him, the parents raised the alarm when the child could not be found within the compound on Monday. The child’s corpse was later discovered inside a well at about 11am on Tuesday.

He said the mother immediately alerted neighbours, who rushed to the scene and retrieved the corpse from the well, adding that the child’s father was away when the body was recovered.

Idris, who said the remains of the child were buried on Tuesday in accordance with Islamic rites, noted that the incident was not reported to security operatives in the area.

A family member of the deceased, simply identified as Yakubu, said the child went to defecate at the backyard of the house on the fateful day and was not seen again thereafter.

He said the parents later searched the backyard but could not find him, a situation that threw the entire family into confusion.

“So it was in the process that the family started going round the community in search of the child, until the next day, Tuesday, when the corpse of the child was discovered in an abandoned well,” he said.

Meanwhile, the chairman-elect of Gwagwalada Area Council, Hon. Kasim Mohammed Ikwa, has condoled with the bereaved family.

Ikwa, who visited the family on Thursday alongside some of his political associates, expressed shock and sadness over the incident.

The chairman-elect urged the family to take solace in Allah and prayed for the deceased to be granted eternal rest in paradise.

When contacted, a police source at the Zuba Division said the incident was not reported to the station.
