5 police officers remanded over musician’s death

A High Court sitting in Asaba, Delta State, has remanded five police officers over the alleged death of a 28-year-old musician and delivery worker, Oghenemine Million Ogidi, popularly known as OG Millan.

The defendants include ASP Usman Nuhu, ASP Onoloko Dauroupamo, ASP Okoh Kelechi, Inspector Goodluck Kingsley, and Inspector Omonigho Ahweyevu.

They were arraigned under Suit No. THC/ASB/CR/M/66C/2026 before Justice Marshal Onome Umukoro.

The court ordered their remand at the Ogwashi-Uku Correctional Centre pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and adjourned the case to June 15, 2026, for further hearing.

Journalists were not allowed into the courtroom during the proceedings.

Human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu described the court appearance as a positive step toward justice, noting that the officers had been produced alongside the principal suspects.

He said the court ordered that they remain in custody pending review of the case by the DPP.

A cousin of the deceased, Emuobor Alex, said the family was not properly informed about the court proceedings and appealed for better communication from authorities going forward.

The case stems from the death of Oghenemine Ogidi on April 26, 2026, in Effurun, Delta State.

He was allegedly intercepted while delivering a package said to contain a firearm and ammunition, an incident that later sparked public outrage after a viral video emerged online.
