Johoreans should judge government’s four-year record at polls, says Gerakan Reset Johor

JOHOR BARU: Johoreans should use the upcoming state election to judge the performance of the state government after four years in power, Gerakan Reset Johor said.

Its coordinator, Datuk Zulkifli Bujang, said the dissolution of the Johor State Legislative Assembly offered voters an opportunity to assess whether the administration had fulfilled its promises and delivered tangible improvements to their lives.

Welcoming Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi’s decision to dissolve the assembly effective June 1, Zulkifli said returning the mandate to the people was the right democratic step.

The former Bersatu Supreme Council member and former Johor Baru Bersatu division chief described the election as more than a routine electoral exercise, saying it would effectively serve as a referendum on the performance of the incumbent government.

“After four years of governing, the people have had ample time to evaluate the administration’s achievements and shortcomings.

“They can now decide whether the economy has improved, whether the cost of living has become more manageable, and whether development and welfare initiatives have genuinely benefited ordinary Johoreans,” he said in a statement today.

Zulkifli said voters should also consider whether socio-economic policies introduced over the past four years had translated into better incomes, improved wellbeing and a higher quality of life.

“The future of Johor is now in the hands of the people. This is the moment for Johoreans to make a mature and fair assessment of the government’s track record and determine the state’s next direction,” he said.

He urged voters to support leaders who demonstrated integrity, transparency and the ability to offer practical solutions to the state’s challenges.

Zulkifli also said Gerakan Reset Johor was prepared to participate in the democratic process alongside other political parties in shaping Johor’s future.

The 15th Johor State Legislative Assembly was dissolved on June 1 after Johor Regent Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim consented to the move.

The Election Commission is required to hold the state election within 60 days of the dissolution.
