Police: Viral clip shows arrest of four people, no shooting occurred in Nilai
NILAI: Police have denied claims that a shooting incident occurred on a road near Dataran Nilai here last night, saying that a clip which went viral on social media is actually related to the arrest of four people.
District police chief Superintendent Johari Yahya said that in the incident about 10pm, four suspects, including two siblings, were detained for their suspected involvement in a robbery case in Johor.
“This morning, the Nilai district police headquarters detected a viral video on social media showing an arrest operation by police at Dataran Nilai, Putra Point, here.
“The operation only involved the detention of suspects who attempted to flee, resulting in a minor scuffle before all suspects were detained,” he said in a statement today.
He stressed that no shooting took place during the arrest, as alleged by social media users.
Johari added that following the operation, police arrested three men and a woman aged between 22 and 28, believed to be involved in robbery and snatch theft cases in Sagil, Tangkak, Johor.
“Checks also led to the seizure of two vehicles, including a Perodua Myvi believed to have been used during the incident.
“Several mobile phones and other items believed to be linked to the case were also seized, and the case is being investigated under Section 394 of the Penal Code,” he said.
He advised the public not to spread unverified information or make speculation regarding the viral video, as it could cause public concern.
