Abacha’s son loses PDP guber ticket in Kano
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared Alhaji Muhammad Bello Dalhat winner of its governorship primary election in Kano State.
Dalhat polled 2,233 votes to defeat Alhaji Muhammad Sani Abacha, son of Nigeria’s former military Head of State, late General Sani Abacha, who scored 749 votes.
Announcing the results, the state PDP Governorship Primary Election Committee Chairman, Umar Danjani Hadejia, said Dalhat’s margin of victory was decisive, earning him the party’s ticket to contest the 2027 governorship election in Kano.
With the outcome, Dalhat becomes the party’s flagbearer in a state considered one of the most politically strategic in northern Nigeria, given its large voting population and history of swinging between major parties.

Kano State has long been a hotbed of political competition.
The PDP, which once controlled the state in the early 2000s, has struggled to regain dominance in recent years, often losing ground to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
