Asked about Pandan candidacy for GE16, Tengku Zafrul says decision rests with PKR leadership

KUALA LUMPUR, May 24 — Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz today said PKR’s leadership will decide whether or not he contests the Pandan parliamentary seat in the 16th general election (GE16).

The prime minister’s senior political adviser said the matter was up to PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, The Star reported.

“That question, you will have to ask the president of the party. I don’t know.

“I leave it to the party leadership to decide,” he was quoted as replying to reporters after attending a Wesak Day celebration in Taman Cheras Indah, Pandan Indah here.

Tengku Zafrul said he has been working closely with the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council to address issues affecting residents in Pandan.

“We will ensure that any concerns raised by the people of Pandan are addressed,” he was quoted as saying.

He added that he also works closely with Selangor assemblymen in the area to resolve local issues.

Anwar has adopted Pandan following the departure of its former MP Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli from the party and tasked Tengku Zafrul to oversee the parliamentary constituency, Bernama reported earlier today.

PKR vice-president Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said Anwar appointed Tengku Zafrul as the latter wanted to play a more active role in Selangor politics.

On May 17, Rafizi and Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad – who was elected as Setiawangsa MP – announced that they were relinquishing their parliamentary seats effective May 18, before leaving PKR a day later.
