Bahrain bans citizens from visiting Iraq
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Due to continued regional security difficulties, Bahrain has prohibited its citizens from traveling to Iraq and Iran.
The “ongoing tension in the current security situation” despite shaky truce circumstances across the Middle East, according to a statement from Bahrain’s Interior Ministry, prompted the decision.
The ban comes at a delicate moment for Iraq, where religious tourism continues to be a significant economic driver, especially in the shrine towns of Najaf and Karbala.
Every year, a sizable number of Bahraini pilgrims visit significant Shiite holy sites in Iraq, supporting local companies associated with pilgrimage tourism as well as hotels, restaurants, and transportation services.
Following months of intensifying hostilities between Iran, Israel, and the United States that have increased security worries across the Gulf, the decision reflects broader regional concerns.
As regional tensions continue to impact air travel, border security, and stability, a number of Gulf governments have lately issued travel warnings or restrictions pertaining to Iraq.
The travel ban emphasizes how the wider regional crisis is progressively impacting Iraq’s tourism and economic sectors, even as Iraqi officials continue to emphasize that the nation is still available to tourists and religious pilgrims.
