Ilorin Third Estate sets 2027 economic and political agenda

The Third Estate of the Ilorin Emirate has hosted its 2026 Annual Dinner, bringing together the emirate’s intellectual, political, traditional and business elite for one of the most significant gatherings of Ilorin’s leadership this year.

The event, held in Ilorin as part of the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, was themed: “Repositioning Ilorin Emirate for Economic Growth, Social Cohesion and Political Relevance in the 21st Century: Pathways and Priorities.”

In his remarks, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State commended the Third Estate for its consistent contributions towards complementing government efforts in areas of development, culture and social advancement.

The governor described the theme of the dinner as timely and remarkable, particularly as the Ilorin Emirate continues to occupy a central position in Kwara’s political and socio-economic landscape.

AbdulRazaq pledged continued support for initiatives aimed at preserving the culture and heritage of the emirate and urged members of the association to sustain efforts regarding the advancement of the domain and Kwara State.

President of the Third Estate of the Ilorin Emirate, Mallam Ahmed Ladan Gobir, reaffirmed the association’s unwavering commitment to unity, development and cultural preservation within the community.

He described the annual gathering as more than a social event, noting that it provides an opportunity for members, stakeholders, and friends to review achievements, strengthen relationships, and renew dedication to the organisation’s ideals.

Gobir, President of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM), highlighted several interventions undertaken by the body in the past year, particularly in healthcare, education, youth empowerment and spiritual development.

They include a medical outreach at the Aisha Buhari Mother and Child Hospital in Eiyenkorin—where beneficiaries received free eye treatment and eyeglasses—and scholarships and educational aid to the emirate’s indigent students in the University of Ilorin.

Gobir thanked the executive committee members, partners and supporters for their contributions towards the successful implementation of programmes, assuring that the association will build on its achievements through additional impactful initiatives.

The well-attended event also featured policy discussions led by two distinguished scholars, Professor Lambe Kayode Mustapha and Professor Hassan Saliu, who examined various dimensions of the theme.

The discourses focused on topics such as youth unemployment, entrepreneurship, education, cultural identity, inter-ethnic relations, governance, traditional institutions, and the political relevance of the Ilorin Emirate in contemporary Nigeria.

Participants noted that the extensive conversations reflected growing concerns over economic opportunities, social stability and the role of traditional institutions in shaping governance and development within the state.

The function came at a crucial political moment for Kwara, with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) fielding governorship candidates from the Ilorin Emirate ahead of the 2027 elections.

The Third Estate of the Ilorin Emirate, a foremost socio-intellectual platform, serves as a forum for professionals, academics, business leaders, and community stakeholders to deliberate on issues affecting the emirate and Kwara State.
