Let Johoreans vote without being threatened, says state Umno Youth chief
PETALING JAYA: The people of Johor have the right to choose between political parties without being threatened with the loss of federal allocations or development projects, says the state’s Umno Youth chief.
Noor Azleen Ambros said it was politically irresponsible and immature of Johor Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Aminolhuda Hassan to attempt to scare Johoreans with such talk.
“State elections are not a contest between the state and federal governments. They are a democratic process for the public to choose which political party can best administer and develop the state.
“It is a contest between political parties, not between Johor and Putrajaya. Johoreans have the right to choose without being threatened with the loss of development or allocations,” he told FMT.
Aminolhuda had said the Johor PH chapter believed that voters would choose a government aligned with the federal administration led by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, who is also PH chairman.
The Johor assembly was dissolved yesterday, paving the way for the 16th state election which must be held within 60 days.
Barisan Nasional (BN) is set to go solo, setting up contests against PH, its federal coalition partner.
Azleen said Johor Umno also wanted PH to clarify what is in store for Johoreans if they choose BN in the polls.
“What is the price they will have to pay? Which federal project will be cancelled? What allocations will be withdrawn? Or is this just a narrative of fear that is being played up to rally political support?” he asked.
