Man drowns during family picnic at Terengganu waterfall

KUALA BERANG: A 26-year-old man drowned while swimming at the Belukar Bukit Waterfall in Sekayu today.

The victim, Muhammad Zahari Mohd Zain, a fruit trader from Kampung Kelulut, Marang, was with a group of 19 family members for a picnic.

He had entered the water with four others.

Hulu Terengganu police chief Superintendent Sharudin Abdul Wahab said they received a report at 4.22pm, and a team from the Fire and Rescue Department was despatched to the location shortly after.

Zahari was found unconscious around 5.00pm by members of the public and confirmed dead by medical personnel.

His body was taken to the Hulu Terengganu Hospital Forensic Unit.
