New deal to digitise Egypt’s transport sector

Egypt’s Minister of Transport, Kamel El-Wazir, stressed the importance of expanding the use of modern digital technologies in all transport sectors, noting that such efforts would facilitate citizens’ access to services and enhance integration between different modes of transport.

This came during his attendance at the signing ceremony of a co-operation agreement between the Holding Company for Maritime and Land Transport, representing its three passenger transport subsidiaries (East Delta, West and Central Delta, and Upper Egypt Transport and Tourism companies), and Trans IT, the technological arm of the Ministry of Transport.

The agreement aims to enhance co-operation in information systems, technology, electronic booking services, and customer support to further develop the companies’ digital services.

The agreement was signed by Amr Moustafa, Executive Managing Director of the Holding Company for Maritime and Land Transport, and Executive Managing Director of Trans IT Amr Tharwat.

It seeks to improve the customer experience in line with the state’s digital transformation agenda and efforts to build a modern, sustainable transport system.

It also includes the establishment and operation of a customer service call centre to handle bookings and complaints, improve operational efficiency, and support management processes.

It provides training for customer service staff and control room personnel, as well as technical services to host the electronic applications of the holding company and its subsidiaries.

The agreement further includes technical solutions and IT consultancy services.

Trans IT has conducted feasibility studies for installing smart cameras and sensors inside buses to monitor and count passengers, in co-operation with companies specializing in artificial intelligence and smart surveillance systems.

Wazir stated that the Ministry of Transport is committed to developing the public transport system and improving operational efficiency and service quality.

He also highlighted the importance of diversifying payment methods, including ticket counters and mobile payment solutions, and collaborating with specialised companies across the country to serve more citizens and facilitate ticket booking for passenger buses operated by the three companies.
